A Rich History
Welcome to The Old Yew Tree Inn, our historic pub located on the main street of the quaint, sleepy village of South Wingfield.
Located in the heart of Derbyshire, South Wingfield is a village steeped in rich history, particularly centered around Wingfield Manor. The manor, built in the 15th century by Ralph, Lord Cromwell, has seen significant historical events, including the imprisonment of Mary, Queen of Scots, and sieges during the English Civil War.
The Old Yew Tree is known for its traditional atmosphere, great ales and being one of the most haunted pubs in Derbyshire.

Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun
The Old Yew Tree Inn is indeed known for its haunted reputation. It often elicits chills and thrills from both visitors and locals alike.
Due to its close proximity to the historic and allegedly haunted Wingfield Manor, visitors and locals alike have reported various ghostly encounters, adding to the pub’s unique spirit.
While the pub itself is a popular spot, its proximity to Wingfield Manor, a historic ruin, may contribute to the stories of paranormal activity. The manor, while closed to the public due to safety concerns, is also rumored to be a site of spectral sightings.
Some people say ghostly figures reportedly seen at the Old Yew Tree Inn include a group of monks, often accompanied by a bitter cold. The Grey Lady (a wandering cattle drover), adds to the pub’s history as a stop for drovers on their way to market.
The pub has also been featured in the paranormal reality television show “Most Haunted”. The show has explored the pub’s alleged paranormal activity, including reports of ghostly sounds, unexplained images and voices in the local area.
Feel free to drop in a have a chat with the locals and the staff about our continued ghostly goings-on including smashed glasses and old voices.
